flu, 4 days. dr declined any treatment; no antivirals. i'm prone to bronchitis, & had pneumonia 4 months ago. shouldn't i take antivirals to prevent?

Does not work: Oseltamivir Or Tamiflu (as well as the other antivirals )the antiviral for treating Influenza A/B has only been effective if started in the first 48 hours of the first onset of symptoms.So if started 4 days after symptoms started will be of no benefit.

was prescribed leviquin 500mg 1x daily for treatment of bronchitis/pneumonia but may have strep... can i take leviguin and amoxicillin 875mg 2x daily?

Just take Levaquin (levofloxacin) : There is no need to double on the two meds. Just take the Levaquin, (levofloxacin)  which will also treat the sore throat, if it's bacterial.  Otherwise,  the sore throat could be viral, which most are, and only time will take it away.

what is the best way to deal with pneumonia from home? my medical insurance has expired and am waiting for it to be renewed. i've been having hard time breathing 2 months ago but i feel worse these days. i've had bronchitis before, it feels similar.

Probably infection: If the urgent care center didnt perform a rapid flu test, you should get one for prompt treatment that would be helpful. if test is negative, chest xray should be helpful to rule out pneumonia.

•	Don't smoke. Wear a mask when the air is polluted
•	Wash your hands using hand sanitizers
•	Drink plenty water
•	Gargle with salt water
•	Have Lemon ,Bay Leaf,  Savory or  Thyme in boiling water or as Tea
•	Eat Berries, black grapes and plums
•	Rest, have good sleep
•	Use a humidifier
See a Physician for continued cough, fever or yellow mucus

I'm not aware: of an effective home remedy.  See your doctor, if you have untreated pneumonia you are in a potentially dangerous situation.  Antibiotics are orders of magnitude more effective.

Bronchitis: Here is one East Indian remedy.Mix Jaggery (or gur - a sugar found in India) with 200 grams of Coriander seeds into a paste and then add water.  Boil &amp; inhale vapors four times a day.

Trigger factors: Trigger factors come in types:
if you have an immune problem (iga), asthma, allergies or similar lung predisposition you  will.
If you smoke/work around fumes/etc. You might.
If you hang around sick people you might.
If your diet & rest patterns are unhealthy you might.
If you work on what you can avoid/get vaccinated & follow a healthy lifestyle you give yourself the best chance of avoiding it.

Possibilities...: Both pneumonia and acute bronchitis are caused by infections. Symptoms that are worrisome include high fever, shortness of breath, hemoptysis (coughing blood). These symptoms would warrant an evaluation by your doctor. Also, if symptoms are worsening, you should see your doctor.
