Cervix/ ectopy: Cervical ectropion/ectopy /erosion is  endocervix  tissue( the inside of the cervix)   found  in the vagina  The everted epithelium has a reddish appearance,like  granulation tissue. Common in adolescents, pregnant women, or those taking estrogen-containing contraceptives. Vaginal discharge is the most common symptom. may have bleeding post sex. usually benign. r/o/ cancer w/ PAP f/u w/ MD

Doctor is wrong:)!: This means nothing. Perhaps your cervix appears large and patulous. Apparently, this is normal for you. The cervix can have variable shapes and sizes. The appearance of the cervix can even be affected by the type of birthcontol you use or even procedures you have had.

Possibly a sign : of infection of the cervix,  more importantly, does the pap say " no abnormal cells or malignancy" or other wise "normal pap"?

had a colposcopy done and a sample was taken. dr. said that my cervix looks almost normal but says i probably have hpv, could the sample rule this out?

Yes: The biopsy should show HPV changes, buta pap smear can check for it.
