CT scan: It depends what do you call a regular ct scan but usually IV contrast dye is needed to visualize the aneurysm. There are non contrast exams and others where IV contrast is employed. Where is the aneurysm located ?. If it's large  and calcified and perhaps located in the abdomen or chest it can be suggested by the non contrast ct. An ultrasound can detect readily in the abdominal aorta.

Depends: A ct scan would usually show an aneurysm, but it depends where. If you are looking for an abdominal aortic aneurysm , a non contrast ct is adequate. If you are looking for an intracranial aneurysm, a ct angiogram with IV contrast or an mra would be indicated.

Yes: Yes.  Ct angiogram scan is the best imaging modality to diagnose an abdominal aneurysm and to measure it's size.

Yes: The contrast is to show blood flow. While some aneurysms have wall to wall flow, most are lined by thrombus, with only the central portion of the aneurysm showing flow. The CT scan can show the wall of the vessel, as well as flow. An arteriogram only shows flow.

Yes: Over many years a vessel can deteriorate.
Many are in smokers, age 65 and up is a higher risk category for example.
Largest number are in the abdominal aortic section, but some in any area of aorta.

They can.: Large ones, particularly if calcified, can be seen on regular ct scans of the brain (with or without contrast dye).  A ct angiogram of the brain provides contrast dye and a special imaging technique that allows for the detection of smaller aneurysms (&lt;5mm).

CT: I'm not a radiologist so i'll be curious to see how a radiologist will answer this but i believe that in most instances, ct with contrast would be superior to mri. Moreover, ct is less expensive and much quicker. Mri, which can take 40 minutes, may be blurred by the movement of a pulsating aneurysm. The biggest advantage to MRI for this is the absence of radiation.

Presumably you were evaluated recently when the CT was ordered, but, if you have doubts about that evaluation, you should be re-evaluated by a physician.  I'm sorry I can't be more helpful. A : A ct scan that includes a ct angiogram would show an aneurysm. Aneurysms are often present with no symptoms. When an aneurysm bleeds, the blood irritates the linings of the brain producing a headache that is very severe. Headache is the most common symptom reported in all of medicine and can have many causes. You don't say why you had the ct scan done, but i assume they told you it was normal. You and your doctor should sit down and try to figure out what is causing the headaches: eye strain, migraine, muscle contraction headaches, etc.
