Yes: Most definitely it can. Nitrofurantoin, or any antibiotic for that matter, can cause urticaria or hives. Ask your doctor about treatment or an alternative.

Could be: Sorry this happened to you!
Definitely worth trying Zyrtec and maybe adding Benadryl (diphenhydramine) if there are no reasons not to.

Stop the medication: It sounds quite clearly like you're allergic to macrobid. Hives would be characteristic of that... plus the place on the body (the chest) is quite typically for a drug reaction (as opposed to say, the foot!).  There are most likely plenty of other options to treat a UTI -so you need to call your doctor ASAP and get a different antibiotic. Macrobid is often used first - but for you 'never again'.

Furadantin (nitrofurantoin): This compound is not known to cause problems during pregnancy.  The issue is whether or not you actually have a uti, and would suggest you get the results of the urinalysis (which was hopefully done along with the culture). Urine cultures are seldom negative in the presence of bacterial infection, unless the infection is involving areas above the bladder. Would need more info. Call your doctor.

Stop start: You can stop but you run the risk of having symptoms while your not taking medication. Otherwise if you decide to stop medication get back on them as soon as you can and finish treatment.

Stomach upset+nausea: Common with Macrobid & more so on an empty stomach. Try food or milk with the medication, otherwise you need to stop taking it & have your dr prescribe something else, unless the UTI has cleared up.

Bid with less anti.: Macrobid works as a bacteria-static agent preventing growth of bacteria, sometimes normal flora like e. Coli, by keeping exponential bacterial growth at bay.  It is used as a strategy to prevent uti's with intercourse or to help someone who suffers from chronic infections to break the cycle without exposing  a patient to antibiotic exposure which can cause drug resistance.

i am on dose 2 of macrobid for uti &making my oral thrush worse. i am waiting to see id for thrush treatment but appt is 1 mth - do i stop macrobid?

Maybe: If your urinary tract symptoms are still present, then you need to continue the macrobid. However, macrobid rarely causes thrush. If you truly have thrush, there may be another cause. You should see your PCP or try to move your appointment up or see a different ID doctor.

Evaluation needed: I would be hard pressed to blame the macrobid for such  marked fatigue. Macrobid is not indicated for kidney infections but is used to treat bladder infections.  I feel that you need evaluation to include lab work and repeat urine culture. Persistent infection is one cause of severe fatigue. Discuss this with your treating physician before discontinuing macrobid.
