is an adult who suffers from hip dysplasia eligible for any type of hip replacement surgery?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Almost all dysplastic hips can be treated with total hip replacement.  Depending on the amount of deformity, we often have to use special implants or surgical techniques to put the hip in as normal a position as  possible.

my daughter was born with hip dysplasia. at first was told it would heal alone. then wear a soft splint it will heal again and it's only 1 hip. now both hips and needs surgery. can i get pros and cons?

: Hip Dysplasia is a complex disorder that can change over time based on a child's growth pattern and genetics. Most children show healing within the first few years. There are a few that get worse. The best advice would be to take all of your documentation to a second orthopedic surgeon and get a second opinion. Without complete details it is not possible to make a meaningful list of pros/cons.

im wondering if surgery is necessary for people with hip dysplasia. ive been in pain for numerous months and talked to my doctor but he doesnt think its necessary but i havent been able to do much fir almost a year. ?

Second Opinion: It may be worth getting a second and even a third opinion.  If you are fairly active and want to continue to be active, get another opinion to see if surgery is even possible.

A thorough clinical exam, and possibly X-Ray may be ordered by the new Orthopedist.

i have chronic hip dysplasia and am in need of a reconstructive surgery. i stay in constant pain. i was recently given robaxin (methocarbamol) 750 and don't help. have any ideas?

Hip dysplasia: Treat with NSAIDs like nalbutome  or diclofenac. Use a cane when ambulating. Avoid stairs ,and positions that increase your hip pain. Work on main tang good muscle tone around your hip and knee, possibly working out in a warm pool is best .

NSAIDs  rest : Avoid  any trauma to the joint.  Can use 
non steroidals as needed for pains as long as not allergic to these and renal functions not affected from diabetes

Uncommon in males: Most commonly cn in famales & usually the sleft hip, but it is much less common now 4 some reason. As a resident we had a day set aside for a hip dysplasia clinic it was so common. As my practice matured over the years i saw fewer & fewer. & in the last 20 years i saw none. As u c common in females & it runs in families but not genetic & follows the maternal side.

what are the requirements for a young adult with hip dysplasia (23, f) to be a candidate for a peri-acetabular osteotomy?

Coverage: I would not hesitate to be seen for a more detailed explanation, but basically  the procedure is done to improve acetabular coverage of the femoral head.  So criteria would be a femoral head that lacks full coverage, usually by 39-40 percent, adequate range of motion of that hip, and lack of severe degenerative cahges in the hip itself.  Again, don't hesitate to be seen.

No sensation to pain: Hip dysplasia means the hip is not fully seated within the hip socket. This increases your risk of hip joint breakdown and injury. You may have this condition and never know about it or it can eventually lead to severe arthritis and pain.

what happens if i was born with hip dysplasia can i have children?

Accepted Answer

Sure: You may want to discuss this with your OB prior to conception as they may just want to look at pelvic x-rays to determine if there would be any problems with vaginal delivery (usually not with just dysplasia). But you do this before pregnant so fetus not exposed to radiation. At worst, you might need C-section, but no reason not to be able to have kids.
