why would i have high parathyroid levels with a normal blood calcium level?

Early on: One explanation is that you might have a new onset parathyroid adenoma. It means that even though you have an adenoma it was caught before it caused significant increase in blood calcium levels.

calcium high at 10.7, alkaline phosphatase very low at 10. negative parathyroid, not anemic, celiac, copper level is normal. what could be the cause?

Watch it: You may have hypocalciuric hypercalcemia, with probably isn't worth the workup as it's not something worth treating. I trust you're not taking a thiazide or dolomite pills, or overdoing milk / antacids. Unless you also have a low albumin, this is unlikely to impact your life. Low alk-phos is never worrisome. my cousin has low vitamin d, high calcium levels, but has normal parathyroid hormone levels.  what could cause this?  doesn't make sense to me.

many possiblities: While hyperparathyroidism is by far the most common cause of elevated serum calcium, there are many other possible causes. Hopefully your cousin does not have cancer, the next most common cause, but there are still many other possibilities. It is important for your cousin to see a good doctor to find the cause. is the calcium level in your blood the only way to diagnose parathyroid problems? calcium is normal in blood, high in urine. a spot showed up in the ultrasound. next step? i have hashimoto's and high tsh levels. mild sore throat for 6 months?

See below: Calcium levels may be on the high normal side on some who have hyperactive parathyroid.  Symptoms are broad, from fatigue to bone pains. Can be primary hyperparathyroidism which is directly from the parathyroid as cause like a nodule or secondary like in kidney disease. Hope this helps.

Unlikely: Calcium looks normal.  Pth level would be elevated if parathyroid problem.

Kidney Failure: Kidney failure is another cause of secondary hyperparathyroidism.  When kidneys are not working well, phosphorus levels go up, and calcium levels go down.  These lower calcium level stimulate the parathyroids to make more pth.  Again, even if the calcium levels are in the normal range, they may be low for that person, and cause the PTH to go up.

Not necessarily: Primary hyperparathyroidism and malignancy are the most common causes of increase serum calcium , accounting for more than 90 percent of cases. There are ways to differentiate one to the other ( check intact pth, PTH related peptide etc) . You should see your doctor and have further blood work-up and discussion in management of the problem.

Hyperparathyroidism: Adenoma of the parathyroid glands can raise the blood calcium level. The adenoma can be removed surgically.
