How high?: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, it would have helped had you provided actual values rather than high and low.

First, make: Sure your condition is optimized preop. Then have a conversation about anesthetic choices with your anesthesiologist. Consider non-narcotic post op pain solutions and maybe regional anesthesia intra-op if possible. If your condition is serious, you may also get extra monitoring post op.

COPD: Emphysema patients has chronic obstructive lung disease so any infection  can set in easily. It is manifested by shortness of breath  and coughing episodes. Meds are necessary.

For certain patients: Lvrs is successful in regards to improved survival in a certain type of patient.  It helps patients live longer who have their emphysema confined to the upper parts of their lungs on chest ct, and who have poor exercise capacity as determined by pulmonary physiology tests.  To understand the role of lvrs in treating emphysema, talk to a board certified thoracic surgeon.

Exacerbation: Even when a patient is on "all the right medications"; the underlying lung disease can cause inflammation and lower the pulse oximetry readings (known as a COPD exacerbation).  Most of the time the exacerbation will resolve over the course of 5-7 days but sometimes more powerful medications given intravenously (like steroids & antibiotics) are necessary.

They can also occur with rib fractures or bruises, pleurisy, pulmonary blood clots or pneumonia. A spot xray or bone scan would spot a rib fracture which could occur in this patient with osteoporosis and COPD.

: I can see the urticaria and asthma as symptoms of the same underlying "allergic" genetic pattern. I wouldn't describe them as causing the other, just being part of the same collection of disorders. I don't see any evidence that they cause cancer. I would wonder if you had a gene defect leading to alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency if you have emphysema at your age.
