Fever: Menstrual cycles do not directly causes fever. If you are getting recurrent episodes of fever then this needs to be evaluated. Start with a primary care physician who can begin the evaluation

Any relation to food: Charcot's intermittent fever can do this.  It is caused by migration of a gall stone into the bile duct and then popping out again.  See your doc.

Infection: most of these infections are viral and respond to treatment of the symptoms , reducing the fever with Tylinol 500mf ,two every four hours,increased fluid intake and rest . The cough can be treated with any over the counter cough medicine. Howe veer if after 48  hours you are no better then see a doctor  as you may need an antibiotic

Influenza A/B: Your symptoms sound like influenza.  I'm sure the ER doctor ran blood tests ruling this out.  The fact that he did not place you on antibiotics suggests to me he didn't feel this bacterial.  Influenza can last several weeks and beat down the healthiest of people.  Yearly flu shots help decrease the incidence of disease like this.  You should follow up with your PCP.

The lsit can include infections of virtually any body system, auto-immune diseases, reactions to medicaitons or diet, or ominous things like cancers. The list includes hundreds if not thousands of possibles, so it is essential that he start with a visit to doctor, a good history, a thorough physical exam, and then likely tests to sort out what is what.

Not likely: Fever is not generally a result of emotional states of any kind.  Fever and chills usually indicate an infection, and sometimes are a signal of lymphoma or other cancers.  See a doctor, tell him/her about the fever and chills, and get an evaluation.

Better now?: You could have overdone it. Could be toxic metabolic or bacteremia.   Drink fluids like Gatorade or juices after a long run.  If better today fine. If not and still having fevers, see a doc.  Having done a long run sounds like you are generally healthy.  If you do these once in a blue moon you are likely to have such phenomena.  Be careful dieting at the same time. Urine rust colored?
