Yes: A person with chronic pancreatitis may have lost enough of the pancreatic tissue that increase in serum amylase does not reach diagnostic levels due to exhaustion of the gland.

Macroamylasemia: One percent of folks have an antibody tagging their amylase which prevents it from being lost in the urine like other folks. If you feel well, and your amylase always runs quite high, just assume this is you. As a lab specialist, I'm always reminding folks to focus on how they feel and whether they have physical findings, and ignore the arcana of lab testing. Glad you're curious though. Cheers.

HIGH AMYLASE&ANTIBIO: No antibiotics and there are many different antibiotics used for various infections, but commonely used oral antibiotics do not cause elevation of amylase to my knowledge.

Elevated Amylase: An elevated amylase in a 14 year old boy does not guarantee the diagnosis of pancreatitis (which lipase is more sensitive). The main sources of amylase in humans are the pancreas and salivary glands. More information will be required for a more broad differential diagnosis.  If any mayor concern please go with your pediatrician.

Gallbladder/pancreas: High amylase with increased lipase  can indicate pancreatitis.
High conjugated bilirubin indicates hepatobiliary disease.  You should go see a gastroenterologist with your lab results.

: Pancreatitis means acute or chronic inflammation of the Pancreas.
Acute pancreatitis is associated with severe abdominal pain and other GI upset symptoms such as loss of appetite and nausea/vomiting. Chronic pancreatitis develops after repeated bouts of acute pancreatitis.....often caused by excessive use of alcohol.
What are your present symptoms and for how long have you had this problem???

i have a high amylase level of 175, normal lipase, cmp, & cbc though. should i worry.  i was once told that amylase is a worthless test by a er doctor?

Isolated high amylas: can be from different sources - pancreas as well as salivary glands for example.  what made you ER docs draw these bloodtests - abdominal pain, I assume?  if the amylase level wasn't too high and your symptoms have resolved, I wouldn't worry about it. if there are continued sxs, would follow it up with your PCP.

High amylase: Amylase is produced by the salivary gland or the pancreas. Evaluate those two places to start.
