Yes: Hibiclens or Chlorhexidine is not recommended for use in children 2 months of age or younger.  It is usually not used for more than 2 weeks at a time on a dsily basis.

Yes: It's often used in some surgical procedures, especially cardiac.  You can shampoo the entire body with it.  Just don't get in the eyes, nose, mouth.

Yes: Like any soap you use you have to rince off the hibiclens after you wash with it.

Hibiclens: Hibiclens is a safe and effective means of cleaning any area of the skin.  However, any antibacterial soap should work just as well.

Accepted Answer

Manufacturer: Contact the people who make this to get the accurate response, but it is probably to distinguish it from other materials in your cabinet so that it does not get misused.  It contains Chlorhexidine and is an antiseptic provided in different carriers.

Accepted Answer

: Yes. Should only need the 'turf' removed once, rinse off the Hibiclenz well. If "oozy" or in an area that will get agitated by clothes or movement (knees/elbows/etc.) then you may want to cover it with a sterile piece of gauze (4x4, non-stick dressing or similar) after putting a topical antibiotic (like triple antibiotic sold over the counter) on the wound, but do let the area get some air.

Use generic brand: The generic name for Hibiclens is Chlorhexidine gluconate. The likely cheapest source is on the internet, but be careful and use a reputable company- just look for "4% Chlorhexidine gluconate" for TOPICAL use (note that less concentrated forms of this is sometimes used as a non-alcoholic antibacterial mouth rinse).

Read the packaging of generic products like "Wallclens", "Hibitane", and others.

Irritating: Hebiclens is a strong anti-bacterial soap.  The stronger the soap the more likely to cause chemical injury to sensitive skin.

Accepted Answer

Irritation: Burn, not likely, but it can certainly be irritating for some. Usually patients told to use on neck down.

q on hygiene--is hibiclens or iodine better for bad vulvitis?

Accepted Answer

Neither: These are both almost the same thing.  Won't treat chronic vulvitis though.  That usually takes a topical steroid.
