Uncontrolled diabete: would it impact HSV treatment:? maybe,  make sure your diabetes is well controlled , or near good control, while having an active infection. Follow your doctor's recommendations, s/he knows your case better, good luck

: Contrary to common beliefs, online information and even some doctors' advice, herpes does not cause ongoing nerve pain. Genital or oral herpes can cause nerve symptoms like tingling or numbness near a skin outbreak, but herpes is not a likely cause of neuropathy (nerve pain) in hands and feet. Common causes include diabetes, alcohol, and nutrition problems. See a neurologist. Good luck.

Usually 3-5 days: Sometimes up to 10 days. The main symptoms of herpes, either oral or genital, are clusters of sores that start as red bumps, become blisters, then open sores. On moist areas (labia, inside mouth, etc) blisters aren't seen, open sores sooner. First infections often also have swollen lymph nodes in the region (e.g. groin, neck), fever, headache, etc. Many infections cause no symptoms at all.

Not unheard of: If a person with oral lesions from herpes performs oral sex on you, you may well develop genital herpes.  I cannot give you a percentage, but if you get it, it will be 100%.

Yes: While there are no medications that cure herpes, there are medications that can help decrease the outbreaks and the severity of symptoms. There are antiviral pills (ie. Valtrex) and creams(ie. Zovirax) that can be helpful. Also some otc meds such as abreva and l-lysine may provide some benefit for both oral and genital herpes.

Not easy: I am sssuming you are able to distinguish between the two anatomic areas. The only way in which you can definitively distinguish between herpes types 1 & 2 is by isolating the virus from lesions or secretions and testing it to see which it is.  Using antibody testing can be very inaccurate because of the overlap due to nonspecific antibodies.

Yes: Can transmit anywhere skin contact with infected skin. Remember up to 20% infected people are contagious  without symptoms.
