Bumps on lips: No, all bumps on the lips are not herpes. You need an in person evaluation from a dermatologist to see if you have herpes if the bump does not quickly resolve.

You don't: As common as HSV1, the cause of herpes is, the possibility of it being herpes is high.  You can have a test done by your doc to be sure.  Good oral hygeine and lack of intimate contact until you do know would be prudent.

i have had random lip burning for 3 mths. hsv igg test was neg after 5 weeks from possible exposure.  now have chapped lips with a white spot. herpes?

May be: HSV IGG is not 100%. Your symptoms are vague and may not be indicative of HSV. If you ever had a fluid filled blister on your lip and if it is recurring then you may have HSV. Culturing such a lesion is a better test than the IGG. Chapped lips or white spots are probably not HSV. However if you've had unprotected sex in the past few months and have symptoms indicative of HSV you may need retesting

Little or no risk: In theory this might happen, but the chance is extremely low. Almost all oral herpes in adults is acquired by kissing someone with active oral herpes. Don't worry about it.

: Both possible.
The incubation period for Herpes simplex virus infection ranges from 2 days to 2 weeks.

Yes: Especially if you had oral sex.  Try valtrex (valacyclovir).

No cure: Herpes unfortunately won't go away.  You are likely to have intermittent outbreaks indefinitely.  Try to id a pattern to the outbreaks.  Occasionally a precipitating cause can be id'd and avoidance prevents another.

Yes: See your doctor. There is medicine available to minimize symptoms. First see if you indeed get it from the exposure. If you do see a doctor who can order the medication.

Two different things: Cankers (recurrent aphthous ulcers) are an "auto-immune" type reaction to trauma/stress (such as biting your lip). They occur on the loose membranes of your lips, cheeks and floor of the mouth.  Your dentist can treat with prednisone, laser or chemicals to cut pain. Cold sores are hsv. Abreva helps those some, but most need doc rx. Both go away without treatment in 10-14 days (pain only 3-5 days).
