Unusual: It is unusual for lumbar spine to affect both legs in this fashion especially bulging disk. If it is a spinal problem, it may be higher up in thoracic spine. Get it checked out please.

Unlikely: Herniated discs and bulging disc are just different stages and may even be the same depending on your interpretation; pain in the basal joints of the thumb is more commonly associated with overuse and degenerative arthritis.

Please see below: Is there spinal cord compression on mri? Is nerve root imingement? If that's the case the only definitive treatment would be direct surgical decompression. This procedure can nowadays be done minimally invasively ANS often on outpatient basis.

Spine nerve irritate: Due to the myofascial connections, low back spasms can be felt throughout the spine in the mid back and  neck a also.  You may also have separate nerve irritation problems in those areas. You will need to be evaluated by your family doctor and a specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation

when i touch or scratch a certain spot on the left side/top of my foot i get this weird tingling sensation when i do it and sometimes goes into my last 3 toes. just started today. no diabetes. but back issue herniated and bulged discs from l4 to s1?

Not necessarily: If you do not have progressive muscle weakness, and atrophy, and pain is manageable, you may actually be able to wait until disc dessicates and shrinks, but could take months.  Epidural steroid injection might work, and oral or IV steroids might be worth a try, but if your bladder is involved, surgery becomes mandatory.

They are similar: Usually a bulging disc refers to a disc that is starting to break down.  Like an old tire, part of the disc weakens and begins to protrude into the spinal canal.  A herniated disc is one that has popped and the contents of the disc rupture into the canal.  Sometimes they are used interchangeably since they are similar.

Usually: There are not absolute definitions for either a herniated or bulging disc. What i may call a bulging disc another doctor might call herniated. In general though a herniated disc is actually protruding or hanging out of the normal disc space. A bulging disc is protruding less. Think of a drop of water, the bulging disc is the drop about to fall and the herniated disc is the drop that is falling.

Synonyms: The terms bulging disk, slipped disk, herniated disk are roughly the same idea that they disc has moved out of place where it should be and possibly compressing nerve or spinal cord.  Typically though herniated disk signifies a slight increase in severity of pathology over a bulging disc.  It gets a little more specific if terms like disc protrusion and disc extrusion come into the mix.

Herniated disc: Hello, usually when medical treatment is no longer effective, disc prostheses are usually used, but it would be a surgical means, I recommend you go to the specialist to tell you your option
