"Turn and Cough": The best test to diagnose a hernia is a careful physical examination by a hernia surgeon. Many hernias are as obvious as the nose on your face, others can "play possum" and require a second exam.  On rare occasion, a ct scan can be helpful.  Many but not all hernias require surgical treatment.  If you think you have a hernia, see a hernia surgeon.

Exercising: After umbilical hernia repair depends on the method used ; should be discussed with your surgeon. There are many methods for repairing umbilical hernias. &quot;tension free&quot; repairs with mesh allow patients to resume physical activity rapidly. However, suture-only repairs may require a longer period of time to permit the repair to fully heal before  aggressive exercising; esp. Ab work. See your surgeon.

i have a bulge that pops out on my lower right abdomen when i bend over but i just saw docot and she can't find a hole for a hernia what else could be?

From your limited: description, it still sounds like a hernia that is too small for clinical detection at the time of exam.  It could also be a lymph node or a benign tumor such as lipoma.  If your doctor is not worried about it, your should be reassured that it is probably something trivial.

small egg shaped bump that appears occasionally in abdomen, where hernias seem to happen. no pain, and bump goes away. strange thing is it only shows up when laying down, not standing up or exercising. this seems to be opposite of info on hernia?

Bump: If the bump is in the very middle of the abdomen this may not be a hernia but diastasis recti which is a separation of the 2 muscles on either side of the midline of the abdominal wall. This bump becomes accentuated when you're lying down and tighten the abdominal muscle by lifting only your head off the pillow. When the wall is relaxed  there is no bump as the muscles come back together

Always a risk: Abdominal wall defects are always a risk for incarceration & strangulation.First if you are over weight , reduce your weight, ware an abdominal binder, try to eat small meals  and don't get constipated, if these measures fail and you no choice but surgical repair.
