well hello. i had 3 incision on my stomach for a hernia repair on 6th april.  on the 10th april i released my first stool and i checked the water was pretty dark around the stool. should i be scared of anything. don't want my bp shooting up. help pls?

: Usually the color of stool has a lot to do with what you ate. You also had surgery so this could also affect the stool color. If this is an unusual color for you and you did not eat anything different, then see if it continues. Your stool should go back to normal as you heal from your surgery. If it doesn’t, or if you develop additional symptoms, then see your surgeon and get it checked. Good luck

when can we start massaging the stomach and incision after c sec?

Nurse : Your nurse will start massaging the top of the uterine which is called the fundus immediately after surgery-- usually in the recovery room. This will be fine periodically in the first 24 hrs after delivery

i got to have a laparoscopic surgery on my stomach when i was will be able to have the laparoscopic surgery, or just one large incision?

Laparoscopic : If your surgeon talked to you about laparoscopic surgery then the plan is to start laparoscopic and continue that way unless  something is found that requires a larger incision.  Most stomach operations are now done laparoscopically.

i had a procd wete they make an incision were my gallbladder empts n bowel duct dilated since then moderate stomach spasms/pain hurts bad . ?

Call surgeon: Or gastroenterologist or who is on call for them now. May need to go to er if pain bad enough.

whipple ire for pc: an epidural for pain relief is placed before major surgery? how can this be done when incision goes through the stomach?

See answer: The epidural analgesia is delivered via a very thin flexible tube which is inserted in the back before the surgery. Its presence does not prevent the patient from being supine during the abdominal surgery.

i just had a cystectomy, with an incision the same size and place as a c-section. this was on tues. am i allowed to lay on my side and stomach?

Yes: Getting into different positions and sleeping on your stomach when you are comfortable is fine.

I : I can not make a diagnosis. Sometimes after surgery, the abdominal muscles may be weak in the area that the surgeon cut open.  Because of the hole or weakness, you can see a bulge if internal organs or fat protrude trhough it.  You would be most apt to see a bulge if you are bearing down (like coughing hard or lifting something heavy). This is called an incisional hernia. You need to contact your surgeon and notify him about your bulge.  
   You need to get emergency care if you are not able to gently push the bulge back through the hole and if the area becomes painful, you develop a fever or you start vomiting.   The danger is that if a  piece of one of your organs (like your intestine) protrudes out of a hernia and gets stuck there, it could get off from it's blood supply and the tissue could die. That would be very serious. Take care and let your surgeon know.

i had surgery 3 months ago even on my stomach with the 6 inch incision then untwisted   intestines . i'm still in severe pain i keep feeling stabbing?

Get checked out: You shouldn't have pain this long after surgery. Go see the surgeon who did your surgery to make sure that there is nothing else wrong

Suture: May be an infected suture. You should see your surgeon before it gets worse.

emergency surgery 18 days ago they had to remove part of small intestine. i went for follow up with surgery today. took staples out of my stomach and put tape like strips across my incision. i didn't ask if i should take off after shower.pls help?

Accepted Answer

: If you can't reach the surgeon to get instructions, I've recommended taping some plastic material on your abdomen to keep the water and spray off the incision.  However, if all sutures,clips&amp;dressings are removed this probably isn't necessary but but keep powerful shower spray away from the incision.
