have had chronic hemorrhoids for 8 years since pregnancy.. gi doctor said internal felt like a bag of grapes. they bleed bright red on and off and hurt with larger stool and constipation. also itch later on. what should i do? 38 yrs old?

: Hemorrhoid surgery is usually not a "first choice" in addressing this problem, as "the cure may be worse than the disease" in terms of pain and slow return to normal.  Probiotics, increased fiber and dietary changes may significantly reduce symptoms, but get a referral to a colorectal surgery for guidance.

Nothing: Large hemorrhoids may be external or internal prolapsed hemorrhoids. You may also have large hemorrhoids because of blood clot in one of them. Having bowl movement may be painful but it will not cause major problem.

Flare ups are then treated with creams, ointments.  If still a problem you could try banding and finally excision/ligatiom.  Surgery is really the only definitive treatment for this.

Office treatment: If hemorrhoid can be reduced they can be banded. Which cause minimal discomfort and is affordable.

i had a large external hemorrhoid for which i was prescribed daflon. after 6 weeks, it vanished. when should i discontinue the daflon?

One week: Typical dosing is for a,total of 7 days. It is for treatment of acute hemmorhoid flare. You can always phone the prescriber and ask for clarification. Hope,that helps.

GI consult : Hemorrhoidd have stages and can even pop out and need to be pushed back in. At this stage you need a visit to a colorectal surgeon for hemorrhoidal banding and evaluation for possible hemorrhoidectomy.

If they are: PAINFUL or are BLEEDING ....a visit is advised....HOWEVER discuss with your GP since the REASON for the chronicity  of the  hemorrhoids should be discussed!
