Nothing: A true heel fracture (calcaneal fracture) is relatively rare, in terms of overall foot/ankle fractures. Most commonly, they occur after a fall from height (ladder, or jumping from height of 5-6') or car accident. Is this the type of injury you meant? They are quite painful and very serious injuries which should be evaluated immediately.

X-ray: Only way to be sure is x-ray. Depending on history and exam, doctor will order to differentiate between soft tissue and bone as pain source. Common cause of non-traumatic pain is plantar fasciitis, which can be make pretty awful first few steps of the morning.

Tip toe: If it is a healing fracture. You may consult with your doctor about the possibility of using cam walker. This is a special fracture boot that is designed to allow for normal walking  while the fracture heals.

No: If you have a calcaneus fracture (a "heel bone" fracture), generally, that requires at least 8 to 12 weeks of non weight bearing to allow sufficient time to healing. Otherwise, the fracture is likely to displace.  Some calcaneus fractures require surgery to prevent arthritis. Make sure you seen an orthopaedic surgeon to make sure your fracture is being treated appropriately!

Perhaps: If you have persistent foot pain, it could have multiple etiologies, and not necessarily is it a broken bone, though it could be. It could be a stress fracture, it could be plantar fasciitis, it could be a tendinitis. Best to have an orthopaedic surgeon check it out to get to the bottom of it!
