Most likely: The pill usually causes periods to be lighter, so I expect that it will help.  However, when you stop the pill, your periods will likely get heavier again, although maybe not as much.

i took an emergency contraceptive after having unprotected sex on the last day of my period. 3 or 4 days later i began bleeding again. it seems like a very heavy period. what could be causing this problem? should i be worried?

It can happen: Plan B (or other "morning after" pills) can alter the menstrual bleeding for the cycle in which Plan B was taken, and sometimes in the next cycle too. One should be sure to check a home pregnancy test about 3 weeks after sex, because emergency contraceptive pills work most of the time, but not all the time. If bleeding is too heavy, one's Ob-Gyn doctor can examine to see if treatment is needed.

Irregular periods: Irregular periods are one of the most common problems obgyns treat. If this is one time problem it usually resolves on its own. If this is a recurring problem you should be evaluated. Infections &  hormonal changes can cause spotting. If there is a concern for pregnancy then do  a home pregnancy test .  There are many options available to help regulate the menstrual cycle. Schedule a visit.

NO!: Exercise, if anything, will make your period better, but in general, exercise and the severity of your period are not correlated.  Get a bunch of elite female athletes together and you will see:  even though they are all at the top of their sports, in amazing physical condition, exercising huge amounts most days, some will have horrid periods, and some will be light and easy.  It's genetics mostly.
