Some do: This is a finding in some  children and adolescents and something that can happen to all of us. Caffeine and carbonation in cola's or power drinks, acidic drinks, spicy foods and intake of food or drink within an hour of bedtime are aggravating factors. Alternative explanations are often ruled out during an office  evaluation and many respond to lifestyle changes and acid reduction like adults.

PPI ?: Are you taking any medication to reduce your stomach's acid production? This can reduce the likelihood of damaging your throat.

Burping: If your 9 year old has other symptoms such as heart burn, abdominal pain, asthma, or poor growth the child should see a pediatrician.  Were the symptoms improved with prilosec?  If so gerd is a possibility.

Primary care doctor: You need a relationship with a competent, patient, understanding primary care physician who is willing to work with you and explain things to you. Insist on full explanations, including why the ALT is up (the really bad things are ruled out, right?) The key to recovering your health may be as much about increasing your level of aerobic fitness as in finding the right medications.

10 yo with GERD: it certainly could be related to the GERD causing some asthma.  You need to take him in to his doc and get this evaluated.

i am 54 years old male having gerd and ibs. currently taking rabeprazole 20 mg (ppi) 3 times a week - morning time and dmpy 10mg 2 times a week - evening time for almost one year. can i just use melatonin 6 mg instead of rabeprazole 20 mg. ?

Recheck with doctors: Question is unclear. Also, you are posting on our free, global, public, informational forum, where medical advice and care are not given. GERD is a common problem, and happens in millions of people. Treatments are with various medications. Melatonin is not an acid blocker. Not sure what DMPY 10mg is. It is best to discuss this with the prescribing doctor.

Hard to say: Gerd is a variable process and treatment includes dietary, behavioral, medication and surgical approaches. I don't know anyone who would operate on a kid that age that could be managed well by PPI's. That decision is better made by those who have more data on the past treatment and present status.

GI Covid: Covid19 gastrointestinal tract symptoms can be rather nonspecific and include nausea, vomiting and diarrhea and these Covid patients may not have any of the classic respiratory tract or other symptoms.

No if treated: Gerd in children uncommon , but do occur will have same complications as adults , and harder to treat. Cancer develops only if neglected allowed to develop barret's ulcer , all complications could be prevented with proper treatments of gerd s do not worry please follow the treatments recommended by her doctor(s) she will grow up to be a fine young lady.
