Yes: I would recommend you see an rei doctor. They may need to perform surgery to increase your chances. I'm so sorry for your losses. That must be so hard. My heart goes out to you.  Definitely you likely will be able to carry a pregnancy, but see this specialist for assistance.

Yes.: Arcuate or heart-shaped uterus (as any other mullerian anomaly: bicornuate, didelphic, septate, unicornuate) increase the risk of infertility and miscarriage should pregnancy occur, as well as previa, accreta, preterm birth, cesarean section and uterine rupture. Seek ob/gyn care, take Folic Acid 1-5 mg daily and good luck!

Usu. not a problem: As the daughter of a woman with a "heart-shaped" uterus and, al,so having a "heart-shaped" uterus, being the mother of a daughter, I can say that this caused no problems with conception.  It may result in breech positioning of the fetus.  The medical name for this shape is bicornuate.  There are likely degrees of shape and size that may influence things, so discuss your own shape with your doc.

Accepted Answer

Maybe: It depends if the "heart shaped" uterus has an internal septum inside dividing it into two compartments making implantation more difficult. When you are ready to conceive, a hysteroscopy procedure by a Fertility GYN MD can make that determination and often at the same time  surgically remove the septum.

i have a heart shaped uterus, can this cause irregular bleedings?  im on the pill and this happens like 2 times a year

Accepted Answer

Shouldn't be: A bicornuate uterus (heart shaped) can have a septum or even a side of the uterus that doesn't connect to the cervix. If this were the case, you'd have painful cycles more often +/- abnormal bleeding. With your symptoms, i doubt the shape has anything to do with it. Continue the ocps and occasional break-through bleeding is to be expected. Twice a year is not bad.

Probably not: A fibroid's effect on fertility is a long standing debate in gynecology. This is a relatively small fibroid and unless it is impinging and/or protruding into the uterine cavity, it will probably not effect a pregnancy. Pregnancy will, however, usually lead to increase in size of the fibroid due to the rise in estrogen that occurs. Fibroids respond to elevation in estrogen levels by growing.

Only pregnancy: Generally infertility not affected but pregnancy may be complicated by premature rupture of membranes, preterm contractions and preterm labor and delivery.

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily: A bicornuate uterus or septated uterus can indeed appear "heart-shaped" but I have many patients who conceive normally & only discover the uterine anomaly at c-section or other surgery. You have a higher chance of a breech presentation at delivery (less room for the infant to turn) or preterm labor for the same reason. No reason to worry unless you have a large septum. Please discuss with an ob.

Usually ok : Most uterine anomalies still allow vaginal delivery especially if the baby is head down. Ask for an explanation from your doctor. Perhaps there were other reasons.

Unlikely : There's only remote chance that you would have the same abnormality.  Those types of abnormalities form in utero.  If you find yourself unable to conceive when you desire,  see am infertility specialist!
