Heart rate: Most resting heart rate normals are 80 to 100 bpm. Some people's resting heart rate is higher. Abnormal reasons for higher resting heart rate include anemia, hyperthyroidism, fever, ongoing inflammation or infection, dehydration and there is also a pathologic sinus tachycardia condition. You'd need to see a dr. And be evaluated if you're worried about your resting heart rate.

Tachycardia: Tachycardia can be from medications, stimulants, thyroid problem, anxiety, dehydration.

Why?: Your heart is regulated by a system of fine neurohumoral mechanisms - why are you trying to defeat them? If your resting hr is 90-100, there's a reason for it. That said, generally the better shape you're in, the slower your resting hr so working out and being keeping body mass index 18-25 will usually do the trick. Fever, anemia, anxiety, stress, exercise, xs thyroid etc. Increases it.

Resting?  Or walking: A true resting heart rate is measures after 15 minutes of laying down or sitting in a chair without anxious thoughts in your head. Walking up to the pharmacy's machine and pressing a button doesn't count.  That being said, if your resting heart rate is truly elevated, try to find the cause. If there is no prior heart history, Rx may not be needed. Propranolol for anxiety &amp; SVT is often used. TTYD.

Heart rate and exerc: Heart rate of 80 is still well within the normal range.  If you have started an exercise program after being relatively sedentary - its not unusual that you might see an increase in pulse.  As your body adjusts to the new exercise program and your cardiovascular health improves the pulse will lower.    The pounding is simply your body letting you know its out of shape.  Good luck

Medical vs. psych.?: After ruling out physical illness, consider psychiatric illnesses that interrupt sleep.  Night terrors, unlike nightmares, leave no memory trace.  PTSD and other anxiety based illnesses can also impact sleep.  Also, consider medications and substances.

: Your symptoms while non specific, as heart and/or lung disease aside from anemia or low blood among the most common causes that are likely, deserve a thorough evaluation. Best would be to start with your primary care doc, if available, otherwise an urgent care timely evaluation may help as well.

8 year old has been sleeping on his back for over an hour his resting heart rate at wrist is 108. hes on two different sedatives. is his bpm a litle high?

The heart rate is : Borderline high for a child who is sleeping.  Normal resting heart rate for an 8 yr old is 70-110 bpm. The more important question is why is he on two sedatives?  That seems like a bad idea. Is this being managed by a doctor?  If not, please consult one right away or stop giving the medications.

Yep: 126 at rest is a very much abnormal rate, unless you just finished exercising or something like that. There are many possible explanations and a good cardiac electrophysiologist can help you sort all that out. Best wishes!
