So many ways!: Fever, anemia, pain, anxiety, panic/fright, asthma inhalers, amphetamines, cocaine, hemorrhage, excess thyroid hormone, infection, epinephrine, dehydration, congestive heart failure, carbon monoxide poisoning - there are many more: i can't think of them all!

why does caffeine slow down my heart rate? if i drink coffee, tea or anything with caffeine my heart slows alot. what would cause this?

Atypical reaction: cannot say in your particular case, but generally, of course it speeds up the heart a little bit. If the change was under 10 beats per minute it is just coincedence.
Assuming the heart rate really did decrease there are still several possibilities. One is there is a reflex slowing of the heart if the blood rpessure increases.  or stimulation of the gut (vaso vagal reaction) or relaxed w. drink

are skipped heart beats dangerous if you have normal tests? and can a caffeine drink and anxiety cause a skipped beat?  :(

Accepted Answer

No.: There is a benign condition causing skip beats called mitral valve prolapse. A lot of caffeine and anxiety  could also cause it. With normal tests, don't worry too much. It feels worse when you focus on it too much, so, relax.

i am 21 and have heart palpitations. not sure if that is normal as i exercise, dont drink caffeine, and dont have anxiety. ?

Time to see a doctor: A young woman who feels palpitations should be checked by her primary care doctor (family medicine or internal medicine, not Ob-Gyn) to make sure her body is ok from a general check-up point of view, and to listen to her heart. It could be a thyroid hormone problem, or could be that her heart is beating irregularly for another reason, etc... Additionally, a cardiologist can also evaluate.

Stimulant: Caffeine is a relatively potent stimulant, and as true with all stimulants, it can cause palpitations and a rise in one's heart rate. Should one experience multiple palpitations and/or an elevated heart rate for a prolonged period of time, be sure to see your physician.

Stop drinking so muc: If your heart 'hurts' after drinking a lot of caffeine, then you're drinking too much for your body, regardless of how much your friends & family can drink. To avoid that 'hurt' stop drinking so much! and if the pain continues, go see your family doc.

Pericarditis: This can be inflammation in the muscle wall or may be in the heart muscle itself. See a doctor for an ekg, they can request additional tests accordingly.

Caffeine: Caffeine can cause palpitations -- it's part of its pharmacological profile. It can also worsen anxiety, especially if you have an anxiety disorder. You could stop the caffeine and see what happens . . . You might feel a whole lot better.

absolutely, there are many possible causes - such as genetics, virus infection.  Caffeine may aggrevate the heart, but to my knowledge is not a cause of heart failure.  On the other hand before worrying about, you need medical examination and testing for the condition!

4-5 hours after drinking coffee(decaf) or iced tea i start feeling jittery, heart rate goes up, feel weak in my legs&arms,and kind of dizzy. i cant figure out is it due to caffeine or due to its diuretic properties?why do symptoms appear 4-5 later?

: If what you describe does that then best is to stop taking that. However decaf tea and coffee have very small amount of caffeine- generally not enough to cause the symptoms you describe- unless you are supersensitive to that. To find  if other reasons causing this pl see your doc
