Recheck counts: Your Hematocrit is a bit low. But this does not imply it is due to cancer. There are many causes for mild Anemia(your diagnosis). I would advise you to recheck it and if the value declines, then you must see a doctor and make sure there is no blood loss like from a GI cancer(colon cancer can present this way).

i recently have been diagnosed with a low neutrophil count 680mm3.  lymphocytes and all other wbcs and rbcs are are all in the normal range and i feel relatively healthy. should i be concerned?

Accepted Answer

Probably not: There are some people who run perennially low neutrophil counts.  Some have what is called cyclic neutropenia in which the variation can be extreme.  Would advise checking this again in 6 weeks or if any symptoms develop.  Otherwise stay well.

Mono-lymphocytosis: You have increased white blood cells, from lymphocytes and monocytes. Although benign reactions like infections or immune reactions are known causes,it is good to consult a hematologist and work your blood with smear and flow cytometry, clinical history and exams, and send these test for diagnosis to a blood specialist, like a hematopathologist. It is now data incomplete and too soon to tell.:)

Yes, after age 65: I know it can sometimes be hard to accept that if you are feeling perfectly well and have no medical problems, why would you need a pneumonia shot?  But your natural immunity does wane as you age and....don't underestimate it...bacterial pneumonia can be rapid and deadly. Giving pneumonia vaccine to healthy older adults has been extensively studied: there is more benefit than harm.

Pneumonia vaccine: im not sure why a healthy 61 year old would require both vaccinations. The ppsv33 is a pneumococcal vaccination already so no need to get another one after the first one.
