last fri had an emergency csection with epidural. next day i had throbbing thigh pain. i have cold headaches with white flashes, dizziness, stiff neck n upper left back n shoulder pain. is this cause of the epidural or was there spinal fluid leakage?

Yes: I don't do primarty care but, anytime you use the word 'severe' the answer is see a doctor. Nothing normal (except possibly childbirth) should be severe.

? Migraine headache: This could be a headache migraine or an ocular migraine. The latter is usually not associated with pain, however. Migraine headaches can be associated with visual symptoms such as flashes, spots, formed hallucinations, etc. I'd recommend a systemic physical exam to rule out medical problems. If physically normal then have ophthalmologic evaluation to rule out ocular problems.

Possible migraine: Migraines can show up in many ways, sometimes as a throbbing headache located on one side of the head with nausea and intolerance of bright lights. Sometimes, however, a migraine can show up in other ways such as changes in vision WITHOUT a headache. This is called a migraine equivalent. You should talk with your doctor for proper evaluation and treatment.

up from lying down,  had aura(flashes, geometric patterns spread from middle) covering vision, mild headache and balance issue. last few secs. concern?

Accepted Answer

If this happens: repeatedly then, YES, it's a concern.  If, on the other hand,  it happens only once or twice, it's not much of a concern.  A "head rush" can happen when standing upright from a sitting or crouching position if the heart &amp; blood vessels haven't had a chance to accommodate  to the change in posture.  Dehydration, overheating &amp; certain other conditions can contribute to head rushes.

Eye flashes: This is very important to see an opthalmologist, flashes could be a sign of retinal detachment.

No: Call your physician, and wear your retainers or your teeth will shift.

i'm a 24 year old woman. my prolactin is 48. i've been having hot flashes and headaches.  my estrogen is low. should i be worried?

Accepted Answer

It DOES need: evaluation but I don't think you need to be super-worried.  Hyperprolactinemia is somewhat common; it can affect the production of other reproductive hormones including estrogen and progesterone, also often impairing fertility.  A common cause of elevated prolactin is a BENIGN tumor in the pituitary gland (in the brain). Often medication can treat this; occasionally surgery is needed. See your doc

i keep seeing jagged flashes of lightning bolts that shimmer around an object followed by an intense headache. are these hallucinations?

Accepted Answer

No: These are not hallucinations and you need to be seen by a doctor. Seeing lightning bolts can mean there is eye problem like a torn retina or neurologic problem like a migraine.  If you are pregnant, visual changes associated with a headache can indicate a serious complication called pre eclampsia. If you have these symptoms it is very important you see a doctor for further evaluation.

Migraine : You are describing a typical migraine headache. If you suffer from frequent migraines you should consult a neurologist to be evaluated for triggers and for possible medical prophylaxis
