Need clarification: You're right ... The math isn't adding up. You could not have a level of 634 only 3-4 days after conception. The general rule of thumb is that you can start to test HCG blood levels as early as 10 days after conception. And, that HCG levels double every 48 hours. Neither of those statements is concrete, just general rules. The dr may have meant 25, 000. Ask to have your levels tested again.

Border line: HCG level of 25 is generally diagnostic of pregnancy. 26 is at the borderline and you may wish to wait 2-3 days to do hpt. Use first morning urine and follow the instructions for the test carefully.

Not pregnant: Yes, less than 5 is considered negative.  Also, if the only time in your cycle that you had sex was 3-4 days ago then it would be too early for you to be pregnant.  On a regular 28 day menstrual cycle, you ovulate on cycle day 13-14 but the earliest you would find a positive pregnancy test is on cycle day 26-27.

Depends: That depends on your goals. If you are trying to avoid pregnancy then wait until you start birth control. If you are trying to get pregnant then start whenever you like.

: Conception occurs within day or so of the sex. It takes about 3 weeks for the embryo to make enough HCG for a positive pregnancy test. Blood test may be done a day after a missed period, HCG more than 25 indicates pregnancy. Home pregnancy tests should be done 4-5 days after the missed period. If the result is negative repeat the test in 4-5 days. Use first morning urine.
