Accepted Answer

No: If you have had CIN I.  The recommendation is for you to have a pap smear every 6 months until 2 are normal 6 months apart, then to yearly screening.  If your last pap was normal, colposcopy is not necessary.  Repeat pap 6 months from your last and hopefully that will be normal.  Good luck!

Years: Cervical cancer is slow developing disease. After exposure to HPV it can take up to 10-15 years for cervical dysplasia to develop into cervical cancer. In your case it is not likely that cancer is the cause of mid cycle spotting which is a very common problem.

1) can long term yeast infection cause pelvic inflammatory disease? 2) normal pap smear results means no hpv? 1st time having brown discharge/light bleeding after sex. it was also painful. 2mths ago pap smear result was normal. what test do i need?

: You need to see your Gyn for proper assessment . yeast infection is not the usual cause of PID. Pap smear is for abnormal cells in the cervix.

i've been tested for hpv with my pap smear annually for the past 3 yrs.this year my hpv test was positive.  does this mean i have always had hpv and just now showing up or did i just recently get hpv?

No just acquired: Hpv infection that causes genital papillomas , and in some cases carcinoma of cervix , you got it now , did not have it before, get it eradicated , it is difficult but not impossible, speak to your gyn doctor first.

can hpv be tested through a urine swab? got an std testing done and it came back with hpv but they didnt saw my area just my pee they said they did pcr test, so i went to my ogbyn said she couldnt do a pap smear until i am 21, i am 20 right now?

: Urine or urine swab is not appropriate for HPV testing. The only HPV testing that normally is recommended is from the cervix in combination with (or in place of) a Pap smear. Current guidelines in the US advise no pap (or HPV test) before age 21. If you're having no symptoms, no need to test now. If sexually active, you may have HPV, but this is normal and usually harmless. Get vaccinated!

Yes: It is possible to have been exposed to hpv and still have a normal pap test. There is a specific test for hpv that you can request, but the good thing is that with a normal pap test there is some reassurance that, even if you have been exposed, it is not currently causing complication. Keep getting paps as recommended to stay healthy!

Very common: Two answers: either a new and transient hpv infection or re-imergence of an old infection that has not yet caused the cervical cells to change. You should have a followup pap and hpv in one year, and if either are abnormal you should have a colposcopy.

HPV: You apparently tested positively for a "high-risk" strain of HPV.  Regular Pap smears and gynecologic examination are recommended, but there is no need for immediate worry.

Pap: Paps can be affected by bleeding, inflammation an infections ie yeast or bacterial vaginosis, gonorrhea or chlamydia.  Hpv pos is a specific virus and when a positive test means that you have the virus.

i have been diagnaus with hpv about 10 months ago. i get tested every 3 months and my pap test keep coming back abnormal. what is going on and why?

May take longer: Hpv may take up to 24 months to clear.  The reason for receiving follow up is that hpv sometimes leads to cervical cancer.  Please don't hesitate to address these concerns with your doctor--this is a general answer and each person's care may be individualized based on your age, any precancerous changes on a pap smear or colposcopy, or other factors.
