i have the mirena (levonorgestrel).. i can feel my strings but i have a pain sensation to the left of my belly button area. is that normal?

No: IIt is normal and common to have some pelvic cramping soon after you have a Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD inserted.  However, it is not normal to have the pain you describe, but it may not be due to the Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD, especially since your pain is higher up than your uterus. See your clinician for an evaluation.

Get checked: If your Mirena (levonorgestrel) has been in for 5 years then it is time for it to be removed and replaced. You can have a pelvic exam to evaluate your painful intercourse. Intercourse should not causes any changes in your belly button. Ask your doctor to evaluate you for a possible umbilical hernia

No: If your stomach was soft before but now is hard in that area,  it is not normal for you.  You may have lipoma under your skin there in your abdomen or you may have a hernia through your belly button (umbilical hernia)  See your doctor for an exam.

Yes: Early after placement, mild cramping is normal.  If this is anything more than mild cramping, or it has persisted beyond a few days after placement, then you should run this by your doctor.

IUD is out: If you had your iud removed and you still have these symptoms then this is further evidence from your previously asked  question that the iud is unrelated to your symptoms. Seek other causes. Intestinal/gi issues are the more likely culprit.

Doctor can evaluate: If one has worrisome tummy pain, and is normally in good health, the possibilities include: heartburn, gall bladder or liver problems, pancreatitis, constipation, appendicitis (usually right lower quadrant), bladder or kidney problems, gut anatomy variations, etc... Most people with "moderate pain," more than mild pain, should get a doctor's evaluation to be sure it is not something serious.

Mirena (levonorgestrel) cramps: Not an uncommon occurrence. If the pain escalates or becomes an issue, consult your physician.

No: It's not normal but not unheard of. Check a pregnancy test just to be sure you are not pregnant.
