Midline swelling?: If the lump is in the midline it may be remnant of thyroid development. It is known as thyroglossal cyst.If this be the case see your pediatrician and discuss the problem with him. If the lump is on the side of the neck it may be a lymph gland resulting from a old or upper respiratory infection. Again see your doctor for further evaluation.

Lipoma: A lipoma is a slow-growing, fatty lump that's most often situated between your skin and the underlying muscle layer. Often a lipoma is easy to identify because it moves readily with slight finger pressure. It's doughy to touch and usually not tender. A lipoma isn't cancer and is usually harmless. If it does bother you the only to take out surgically.

Neck lump.: If it's in the front of the neck or under jaw, it could be a salivary gland. Sometimes there are stones in the salivary duct causing this. If on the side, a lymph node is most likely. Lymph nodes swell with viral infections, but can be a presentation of something worse, a lymphoma. If it is growing it needs to be biopsied. If it comes and goes its its less urgent, but still needs a doctor visit.

Infected cyst: It sounds like you have an infected cyst on your neck.  You need to be seen to get this evaluated.  You may need antibiotics and possible drainage.

May be cyst: Very few painless hard lumps in neck change size.  One type of lesion can be an inflammatory node which as the inflammation resolves at the primary site gets smaller.  The other is a thyroglossal duct cyst which in the truest sense is a cyst that may occasionally change size as a remnant of the descending thyroid gland

Sebaceous cyst: you most likely have a sebaceous cyst. Can be easily removed in office. If not bothering you. Can wait.

Yes: Anything that is a mass, is painful, and is burning needs to be evaluated by an orthopedic tumor specialist.  The burning sensation could mean that it is involving the nerves.

Neck lumps: Marble sized lumps may be swollen lymph nodes (lymphadenopathy). CMV (mono), tinea (ringworm), ctcl and many other disease cause rash and lymphadenopathy. Physician evaluation recommended.

Not sure: it is not likely anything serious. It could simply be the bones of your spine you are feeling or a small fatty growth under the skin. See your physician for an exam.

?nodes: These may be enlarged lymph nodes in the posterior neck chains. In the absence of other symptoms like a rash in the neck or scalp, or viral like syndrome, we would simply recheck these in a week to see if they're receding or enlarging  or whether new nodes have appeared. In case of the latter, your MD would order appropriate tests which could include a biopsy.
