Depends: We usually monitor the breaks by x-ray watching for bone healing and alignment .  Once enough healing is present you can gradually increase the weight on the leg.  If you had surgery then that will likely be faster.

PT may be in order: Physical therapy can address the gait issue with limping as this is likely related to muscle weakness.In addtion they can do soft tissue massage to alleviate the ankle swelling. This can occur when muscles are weak and do not provide enough pumping action to return blood to the heart.Check in w/your Orthopedist or Sports MD to get a prescription &amp;/or agreement on next steps to get your gait normal

Probably Not: In the setting of fracture care physical therapy is generally used to increase range of motion, strengthen muscles, and accelerate return to activities. Most patients have some sort of immobilization during fracture healing and after the fracture is healed need some transition to full pre-fracture activity. However, many patients can do exercises at home and do not need formal physical therapy.

Minor fracture.: It is a break in the bone in which the fragments remain in position without any separation.   Treatment is to avoid further injury ( avoid rough sports, etc ) and to control pain.  You will be miserable when you sneeze or cough, but this should get better with time.

The knee includes 4 different bones (femur, tibia, fibula, and patella.)  typically any hairline fracture is treated with a reduction of use. This may include using crutches to limit or eliminate weight bearing. You need to see your orthopedic surgeon for an evaluation and recommendation based on your fracture.
