Menorrhagia: You have prolonged bleeding.  This is not likely your period, but a form of dysfunctional bleeding for a variety of reasons.  Please see a gynecologist or at least your family physician.  I would call first thing Monday morning so you can get in.  The issue is that you are likely becoming anemic and need some medical help to stop the bleeding.

Irregular bleeding: This can be due to anatomic causes such as uterine fibroids, endometrial polyps, and other.  Or it can be due to hormonal causes such has hypothyroidism, polycystic ovarian syndrome, and other.
Bleeding this much is not normal, and you should be seen by a doctor soon.

Go to the Doctor: No. Do not go to the hospital. This is the very reason you should have a family physician or gynecologist.  They need to see you. It can be urgent but do not use the resources of the er when this is a primary care issue.

Progestin only pill: Progestin only pill is usually used only while breast feeding..It has a lower efficacy than other oral contraceptives so use condoms also. All Progesterone based contraception has potential for prolonged irregular bleeding. If this persists it is advisable to change to a method that has an estrogen component, unless you are breast feeding. Infection and uterine problems can also cause bleeding !

Depo effects...: Depo Provera (medroxyprogesterone) can definitely cause abnormal bleeding especially in the beginning. It usually starts getting better until most women completely lose their period while on the hormonal injection, so don't be afraid when this happens. Make sure you get the next shot no later than 14 weeks( better if by 12 weeks) after the first dose was given. If the side effects are persistent and severe f/u with GYN

Irregular periods: Irregular periods are one of the most common problems obgyns treat. If this is one time problem it usually resolves on its own. If this is a recurring problem you should be evaluated. Infections ;  hormonal changes can cause spotting. If there is a concern for pregnancy then do  a home pregnancy test .  There are many options available to help regulate the menstrual cycle. Schedule a visit.

Menorrhagia: Yes you should see a doctor now.  Heavy vaginal bleeding for a month is a reason to be seen by a physician tonight!  You may have dangerously low blood levels.  Furthermore, your doctor needs to figure why you are having such heavy periods and how to stop them.
