gyno examination, what to expect?

Gyn exam: For a routine exam- undressed and gowned-open in the front.  I check the heart and lungs and then do a breast exam-laying flat and seated-I then palpate the abdomen before placing patient up in stirrups for a visual inspection of the ext genitalia and then exam the cervix and take a sample from cervix for pap smear,   then check the ovaries and uterus with hand in vagina.  The rectal exam is last.

So call the office: The issue is something faced by these docs in their patients occasionally. A call to the office can connect you with an office nurse or staff person who can describe the series of events common to a visit &amp; answer your questions. They often encourage such patients to bring along a trusted friend or parent to accompany them for any exam or procedure. Knowledge may help you get past the fear.

can a general doctor tell if my hymen is intact through manual examination? or is a gynecologist the only one who can tell?

Depends: Gyns have the most experience with pelvic exams but any doctor that does routine pelvic exams can do an exam to visualize the hymen.  The problem is that not all virgins have a hymen.   So the absence of a hymen doesn't prove anything.   Its not really a good test to establish virginity.  Best wishes!

my general doctor told me my hymen was intact after a manual examination. will i bleed my first time? how accurate is my gp then a gynecologist?

Both Fine inre HYMEN: Both your GP and your GYN would be able to tell you about your hymen by a basic examination.  For more in depth Gynecological problems and or delivering a baby etc, the GYN would usually be best.

Not an issue:: You can still get a pelvic exam and possibly an ultrasound while on your cycle.

: As discussed in response to your several other questions, you clearly have an unusual and complex problem. Whether or not your problems are classified as PID is irrelevant, since you have been treated (twice) as appropriate and recommended for PID. Not all PID is sexually acquired, in case that makes a difference. Infection/inflammation after embedded IUD can be considered a form of PID.

Depends: Most recommend pelvic exams by 21 or within two years of starting sexual activity.Some peds/adolescent med/fps provide these services as part of ongoing care of their patient population. Any sexual activity  requires surveylance for std's. Your primary care provider may refer you for specific consultations when necessary.

is trained to evaluate the genitourinary tract, which includes the kidneys, urinary bladder and genital structures in men and women, and the prostate and testicles in men.

Too vague: It's difficult to answer your question as it's very vague.  A more detailed description of the pain (what part of the body, menstrual cycle, how often, how long does it last, other symptoms, pregnant, etc.) would likely yield a more helpful answer for you.  Of course if the pain is severe, do not wait for an answer here and seek evaluation.
