What to do: The symptoms you describe could be from any number of causes. In order to diagnose the problem and treat the cause, you need to see a dentist as soon as possible. In the meantime take some OTC pain medication- Advil, Motrin, Aleve or what you would normally take for a headache. Rinse out with some salt water and stick to soft foods. Feel better soon.

Swelling: Post Operative swelling is not unusual following any type of surgery.  Sometimes it's a normal part of the healing process.  Sometimes it signifies infection.  Please return to your Dentist for reevaluation.

Hard to tell..: ... without examining you and knowing exactly which tooth was worked on and how extensive the restoration if the soft tissue was manipulated in any way. You're under the care of a dentist... ask him/her to take a look.

SS Band allergy?: It&#x27;s more likely physical irritation and plaque accumulation although some individual may have a soft tissue reaction to foreign materials such as stainless steel bands. This should be discussed with your Orthodontist who can determine what&#x27;s going on in your particular case and make suggestions and\or modifications if necessary.

Perio or infection?: It may be a periodontal (gum) problem related to calculus and poor oral hygiene. I&#x27;m not sure why they just keep giving you antibiotics. It may also be an infection that is not apparent on x-ray. Find the best Dentist in your area for second opinion and solve the mystery.
