What's your question: Why was your serum Insulin checked in first place? What's the reference range given for insulin? How did your ordering physician interpret test for you? Why was blood drawn after a meal b/c you need to be fasting in order to calculate your homa-ir? my fasting glucose is consistently 100-115, and yet post prandial 1 hr is 160, 2 hr is  86.  last vap showed negative for metabolic syndrome.  is this a result of nighttime glycogen dump, and if so, why? and why the normal post prandial?

Pre-diabetes: People with pre-diabetes/early diabetes can produce higher level of Insulin to keep bs somewhat adequate, sometimes they overshoot and can cause subsequent low blood sugar after a meal, especially if it's a high carbohydrate meals.  As of now, you have impaired fasting sugar which is a form of pre-diabetes.  You might need a hba1c test (blood test) to see your overall level of glucose control.

i know my a1c and i check blood glucose fasting and post prandial daily. i eat very low carb and workout daily. why do i need a dx???

Dx: If your A1c and fasting blood glucose are all within range there seems to be no need to check your blood glucose more than once a week. If the 'once a week" gives you bad results, go back to treatment. If not - check your blood sugar once a week. If that is OK - relax and enjoy.

i forgot to run my new glucose machine and strips through control solution before first use. ive used it 5 times. 4 fasting, 1 two hours postprandial. results have been 84, 95, 90, 89. fasting,105 postprandial.can i trust these w/o the ctrl solution?

: You can do now with the control solution and if the machine reads the correct concentration of the testing solution, your 5 resulted numbers were accurate.

All are significant: High Fasting is the reason that your HBAic is high. This signifies that your overnight sugar metabolism is problem , this could be due to Liver fat

Post-prandial: Means after a meal. The usual time is two hours after you finish eating. It usually doesn't take that long to eat, so the exact timing is somewhat arbitrary.
