itchy red welts developed 10 days after getting flu shot. had similar reaction last year. no trouble breathing; last year welts went away after 14 days.  i think hives are a very rare side effect of flu shot, right? should i skip a flu shot next year

Flu vaccination: There is very rarely an allergic reaction associated with the influenza vaccination. Take Benadryl as directed for three days, and if the hives continue, please see your PCP. Watch for signs of respiratory difficulty, dizziness, and if these occur please see the emergency room.
The flu vaccination may be administered next year, but an allergist may advise additional testing.

Worse: Flu season has started early this year -- already 15% of tests are coming up positive for flu!  the flu show may protect you against the predicted worst 3 flu types, and be sure to immunize yourself!  it is hitting the hardest and fastest in the south. Georgia wll be the 6th state to have widespread flu soon!  get your flu shot!

Flu shot: Flu shots like other vaccines expose your body to either a partially killed or killed virus which triggers your immune system to make antibodies to it.  If you get exposed to the virus later, your body is prepared and can rapidly mount an attack against it either preventing you from getting sick or greatly reducing the severity of the illness.

i had gillian barret 2 years ago and dr. won't give me a flu shot. wouldn't the shot be better than the risk of getting the flu?

Guillain Barre: Guillain Barré Syndrome (GBS) is a disorder where a patient’s immune system goes haywire and attacks the peripheral nervous system. GBS can be triggered by vaccinations such as the influenza vaccine,  tetanus shot,  Hepatitis B vaccine, the Menactra® (MCV4) vaccine, the Gardasil® vaccine, and other vaccinations.

my baby is 28 months & had a flu shot 2 weeks ago and today doctor give her tamyflu medication for her diagnosing she has influenza? is that okay?

Depends: It is certainly possible for a kid that age to get flu in spite of a flu shot 2 weeks ago. The shot may not have had time to build protection or it may be a flu strain not contained in the vaccine. Tamiflu will be effective if started in the 1st 48 hrs of flu symptoms, and less so if started later. Young kids also have more side effects. Since I have almost lost young kids to flu I would use it.

Condoned, but ok: As you know, this is not recommended, but it will not hurt overall if you are generally healthy.

Side effect is: possible. Flu shot side effects may include:  slight swelling, redness or pain at vaccination site.  If headache, nausea, fever or  muscular pain occur they usually resolve within one to two days.  You won't get the flu from a flu shot because the virus either contains inactivated virus or doesn't have virus particles in it. Severe side effects are rare.

is it ok to take garlic supplement after getting flu shot 5 days ago? it has anti - viral affect, can i take it or not?

OK to take: Garlic is promoted as beneficial for many things. The things for which the evidence is strongest is improving high blood pressure and preventing colon and stomach cancer if garlic is eaten (not supplements). The evidence for preventing viruses/colds is weaker. It should not interfere with desired antibody production following a flu shot.

finishing 12 days of prednisone for various issues. how long after my last day on pred should i wait before getting flu shot and covid booster? i'm not acutely ill anymore, but i know i should wait until pred is out of my system before my shots?

: The  vaccinations may be administered as per the usual protocol as advised by your physician. One day after finishing steroids, the COVID 19 vaccination may be obtained. Steroid injections should be scheduled after the COVID 19 vaccination rather than beforehand. Shingles vaccination should be administered two weeks or more after the COVID 19 vaccination.

Yes.: While the flu shot does not protect against all types of flu, this year's flu shot has done a good job providing protection or making the symptoms of the flu less.
