how much milk of magnesium can i give my 1 month old? her bowel is a dark green paste and she strains. her formula was changed from enfamil to gerber.

Formula: Your baby's stool is probably green from the iron present in the formula. It is also normal for baby's to strain and grunt when passing stool. Milk of magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) is not indicated in a month old baby.

my daughter is 2months but enfamil is not enough for her to last 3hours can i add gerber in the milk or its to early?

Gerber: It is too early to add gerber's. Try giving more milk,  have your child such on a pacifier and give sterile water between feedings if necessary.

Formula: Gentlease is a good alternative. Many babies do very well on it.  If you'd like to keep the baby on his/her current formula, a trial of probiotics might be recommended by the baby's doctor.

Sure: I see no reason why you couldn't switch, as long as baby continues to feed and gain weight appropriately.

Probably: If your baby is doing well with one of these formulas, then in general it is recommended to stick with that one.  However, if that's not possible, there will probably not be any major problems from switching as long as the baby accepts the new formula.

: Enfamil is a specific infant formula which is not the same as milk powder. Please try to have your physician order the formula for you and discuss online resources with your pharmacy.

Formula: I'm sure it has to do with the manufacture and processing technique.  But, you would have to contact the company to find out why.  They may have information on their web site.

Accepted Answer

: This varies with each baby. Breast milk is the preferred feed as it is designed specifically for the baby you have. Any or all alternative commercial formulas may be well tolerated by some babies while others spit more/are constipated or have other minor symptoms. You can try several, at least a week at a time, to see which baby thrives with. When you find one they tolerate well, stick with it.

Should not be problm: As long as the protein base is the same (cow milk protein or soy) there should not be any problem. There are subtle differences in formulas and their stooling pattern may change.
