Slow resolution : These lesions do not suddenly disappear.  They slowly dry up, inflammation resolves, and the lesions gradually resolve.

It is best to treat: herpes when initial symptoms (before blisters appear) like burning, itching, pain starts, then it shortens the course and can prevent the blisters from forming. Once lesions are present, taking pills may only shorten blister duration by a day or two

No predictability: First, viral shedding in a herpes patient happens irregularly and unpredictable and untestable fashion.  Herpes medication to suppress viral shedding is thought to lower the risk of infection by 30 to 50 percent.

Yes: While there are no medications that cure herpes, there are medications that can help decrease the outbreaks and the severity of symptoms. There are antiviral pills (ie. Valtrex) and creams(ie. Zovirax) that can be helpful. Also some otc meds such as abreva and l-lysine may provide some benefit for both oral and genital herpes.

If it is truly: recurrent genital herpes, oral anti-viral suppression therapy with drugs such as Valtrex (valacyclovir) could be useful.  But you need to have accurate diagnosis and screen for rest of STD's.  Get to a doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Your decision: There are medications for outbreaks, to be taken "as needed."  and there are medications that can be dosed for prevention of recurrence.  If you don't get many outbreaks, you may benefit form the former option.  A good discussion between you and your dr. Would go a long way, and you can decide on the best plan for you.  Good luck.

Let me explain: There's no cure for genital herpes. Treatment with prescription antiviral medications may:
 help sores heal sooner during an initial outbreak
 lessen the severity and duration of symptoms in recurrent outbreaks
 reduce the frequency of recurrence
 minimize the chance of transmitting the herpes virus to another.

Herpes treatment: The are no medicines that have any benefit for herpes except acyclovir, valacyclovir and famciclovir. In the US and most industrialized countries, they require prescription. Don't be tempted by OTC meds or internet offers:  they won't work. Already having herpes, what do you mean by "not get infection"? To protect partners, you should be on daily treatment, e.g. valacyclovir or acyclovir.

Here is the problem: There may still be viral shedding which could effect the baby even if she has no active lesions.
