Need more informatio: We need to know the  Diagnosis(what condition does this patient have? Is it multiple multiple Myeloma or some other blood disorder. Further there are 2 different types of Bone marrow Transplants(BMT): Autologous and Allogeneic....which one is he going to have? Survival is dependent on the diagnosis as well as on the type of BMT.

Depends: Depends on the stage of the cancer (contained, metastisized, cured etc), on your overall health. Experience of you oncologist to recognized side effects, your mental health and support system.

how to know what exercises are fun for an 11 year old that just received chemotherapy?

Accepted Answer

Walking: It depends on what are platelet and neutrophil counts(anc) are. Please ask his nurse or oncologist your question. In general i would recommend walking in uncrowded area, stationaly biking, badmington, or non-competitive table tennis. If outdoor, put sunscreen on. I would not recommend contact sports. Depending on the phase of chemotherapy, type of exercise may change, so it is important to ask.

Indiana Jones said:: "it's not the age, it's the mileage".  Age as of itself should not be an issue in giving chemo if indicated.  More important is the general health of the patient.  Sadly, as we age we are more likely to have other medical conditions that limit tolerance to treatment but all things being equal, yes, an 80 year old can survive and tolerate chemo.

Time may still help: 'Chemobrain' typically lasts for up to about a year. You likely will continue to improve. My best advice would be to cope while you are still not back to your normal (ie. make more lists, leave additional time for tasks if needed, etc.). However, try to challenge your brain with activities that will help you to try to expedite recovery. Talk to your doc if not at least seeing some improvement.

See a neurologist: A complaint like this may refer to changes in your thinking, memory, language, movement, etc.  It will help for you to describe your symptoms in more detail and sit for a thorough physical examination.  You may also be asked to have a battery of language and memory tests sometimes referred to as neuropsychological testing.  Good luck!
