drinks like gatorade/powerade replenish you and quench your thirst. but how is this possible when they have sodium(salt)? doesnt salt dehydrate you?

Replaces salt losses: During exercise and sweating, we lose variable to large amounts of salt/sodium and other electrolytes, especially if a heavy and salty sweater and/or exercising for over one hour. Beverages like gatorade and powerade replenish those salt losses while also providing water for hydration and some carbohydrates for energy replacement as well. We don't endorse talking salt alone without the hydration.

It is normal: Thirst is a mechanism controlled by the brain where there are receptors (osmoreceptors) that sense the amount of salts in our body. If we loose fluids ( sweating, exercise, diarrhea) these receptors are activated and give us the sensation of thirst. The threshold for these receptors activity is different in each of us.

Doctor to examine: A person in his 60's who is constantly thirsty should see his primary care doctor, who will check the hydration status. Blood tests to look for diabetes, viral infections, anemia, and other problems might be done. Diabetes can cause this, but other illnesses can cause this also. The doctor will want to know what the person is drinking, when it all started, what happens while sleeping, etc...

Really good question: Test it out. Try heavily carbonated water (seltzer) and see if that makes you thirsty and see if either highly sugared beverages do (a shot glass of maple syrup) or sour stuff lemon in water. The answer is that a bit of a combination. Mostly, the carbonation (which is SODIUM bicarbinate after all) and a bit of the others.

Ah, the patient: asking about 5 doctors and having the connection go badly. Would need a bit more information, but these are not pregnancy symptoms and you can get a test over the counter for pregnancy.
Other signs of Depression would be lack of interests, not conversing/interacting with people, not doing anything fun.

Side effect: Dry mouth is one of the most common side effects of this medication (a centrally acting α2-adrenergic agonist), seen in about 50% of patients who use it.

Thirsty: He certainly should be tested for diabetes mellitus. Diabetes insipidus can also be a remote cause. Sleeping with an open mouth  secondary to enlarged tonsils is another cause. See your pediatrician for further help.

Water consumption: If you are thirsty frequently and have tested negative for diabetes, then drink more water.  If you haven't had specific testing for diabetes such as a 2 hour glucose tolerance test, then have that done.
