when getting the gardasil shot, do you have to get the shots within a certain period of time?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Gardasil is a vaccine to prevent cancers and warts caused by 4 strains of HPV virus. It is approved for females ages 9-26 years. Recently, it got approved for males also. Some doctors wait until girls are teens before giving the vaccine, as that is when sexual activities often begin. The second shot is 2 months after the first, and the third shot is 4 months after the second.

is it normal to have late period when having a gardasil shot?

Accepted Answer

No relationship: Just because the Gardasil shot prevents infection by viruses that cause genital warts and some cervical cancers doesn&#x27;t mean Gardasil has any effects on menstrual periods, PMS, sex, pregnancy, etc...  The vaccine has no relationship to menstrual periods. The shot is given in the arm, and the antibodies are made by the immune system to offer protection throughout the body, not just at the genitals.

Not Sure: Actually a review of the literaturs shows only 1 reported case of amenorrhea ( no periods) after taking Gardasil as reported to VAERS. I would definitely have her look into other causes of the secondary loss of periods.

Immediately: The spacing of the doses is designed to preserve and extend the antibody levels developed after the first dose of the vaccine. As long as these are given within the recommended time intervals the patient sustains protective levels continuously. The final dose is meant to extend the duration of protective levels for decades.

i have foul smelling vag discharge for months now, i was treated for bv 2019 & prescribed gardasil for hpv. i have a mirena iud for +- 3yrs now. there's no itching, redness or swelling. i do have irregular periods (4+ a month) & smell worse after sex?

Vaginal odor: HPV is a virus, and does not produce an odor.  More severe odor after sex may indicate a vaginal infection, and is worse b/c the secretions after sex represent accumulation of bacterial growth from inside the vagina. See your gyn physician for an exam and treatment. You may want to have your partner checked as well.

no.: Site of injection might be a little sore, but that's about it.

when i was younger i got 2 gardasil shots and never went back for the 3rd one. i got hpv which is gone, but im wondering if i should now get the 3rd (10 plus years later). does it cause premature menopause or cysts? been dealing w/cysts, related?

: Recent research has found that 2 doses of HPV vaccine is almost as effective as the recommended 3 doses. It wouldn't hurt to have the third dose now if at risk for new HPV (new or multiple sex partners by you or your partner), otherwise unnecessary. Neither HPV itself nor Gardasil causes premature menopause or genital area cysts. Discuss both issues with your gynecologist. Good luck.

No: I have given hundreds of Gardasil vaccines to my patients, as well as to my own daughters.  I have never seen, in any of my patients, or my own children, any health problems after vaccination.  Yes, the shot may hurt, and some patients pass out after the shot, but this is an acute issue, not a long term one.

it says it's necessary to shake well to maintain suspension of gardasil vaccine. but nurse didn't. color didn't change as said so. will it be problem?

No worries: The vaccine is very forgiving. It will still be effective. Don't worry about it!
