Not listed: Your friend may have lost hair serendipitously but it is not listed as a common or rare side effect of neuron tin use. As in everything in life there is a risk and a benefit to any action you take. Hopefully the benefit of taking the med (neuron tin) out ways any risk (hairloss) that you might suffer.

Alopecia: Alopecia or hair loss is usully  not a a sise efecto of gabapentin , but severe stress could weaken your immunity and that could propiciate the hair loss. Go to your doctor and maybe he add another axiolytic to your treatment . Good luck.

How well?: I don't see that hair loss is a major side effect of Neurontin, (gabapentin) but to be technical the best way to know for sure is to stop it and see if the hair loss stops.  BUT, I wouldn't do this without consulting with the prescribing doctor, and hair regrowth could take many months so may be hard to tell anyway.

im 17 years old and am losing hair in the temples of my head. its getting pretty far back on the right side. i work out heavily and eat very well. other than genetics i cant think of any reason id have this issue. how can i regrow or prevent loss?

See dermatologist: You need to properly diagnose  this hair loss. Should it be the very common androgenetic alopecia, known as male pattern baldness, he will provide you with possibly an oral med along with a topical otc med to help you. However, it just might be something different, and that is why you should be evaluated.

Could be months: Your hair is not lost, just breaking off. It should grow out normally, but may take several months since hair grows intermittently not continuously. Give it time, and avoid chemical treatments. Continue the iron to build your blood count back toward normal.

Medical causes may include: hormonal problems (low thyroid), seborrhea, alopecia areata, stressful illness. Other causes: genetic male/female pattern baldness, telogen effluvium.
