Xray: If you are having pain, an xray may be the first step in evaluation.  Sometimes a ct scan or MRI may also be ordered.  If you believe your talus may be fractures, i recommend you be evaluated by a specialist asap.

No: No, i would not say it is normal and there are multiple potential causes.  Some talus fractures heal uneventfully, others have serious long term sequelae.  Tarsal tunnel syndrome is just one condition that can cause similar symptoms and may be more common in someone who has had such a severe injury as you are describing.  Thank you for your question.

Stress fracture: The best way is to follow the directions of your treating physician, which I am certain involve either non weight bearing or cam walker or  casting.   Second guessing your doc rarely works out well.
