Gastroparesis: You may want to get with your pcp or a gastroenterologist. After appropriate evaluation you may benefit from some medications that speed gasrtic emptying.

Its abnormal: After two hours 40% emptying is normal.  After 3 hours 70% emptying is normal.

Yes: An upper endoscopy can diagnose gastroparesis.  If there is food in the stomach after fasting for the procedure, then there is gastroparesis.

i had a gastric emptying test and got the results. it said after 1 hour, i had 59% food left and after 2 hrs, i had 8% left. that isnt normal, right?? i have severe bloating for 3 years and can hardly eat due to being full asap. im frustrated?

: You need to have these results interpreted by the GI doctor who ordered the test. But, having only 8% left in the stomach after 2 hours is normal, assuming the food ingested for the test was solid food. But, you need to see the doctor who knows you best to interpret the results, knowing your symptoms and clinical diagnoses. Good luck!

Probably none: The study personnel have a set procedure and would have told you if they wanted you to bring food.  They will probably have their own substances they use and have you swallow.

i had a four hour gastric emptying study that came out normal. i am still regurgitating undigested raw fruits and vegetables from 4-9 hours later. some are: popcorn, green beans, pears, cucumber, blueberries, high fat food... what's wrong then?

: If those regurgitated foods seem undigested, esophageal diverticulum may need to be ruled out by upper endoscopy or barium swallowing. However, if you have history of severe type I diabetic mellitus or systemic sclerosis, that regurgitated symptom may occur once in a while even with a normal gastric emptying test.

Causes may be mechanical (obstruction, or the stomach outlet narrowed from healing of past inflammation, treated by endoscopic dilation), post-inflammatory (due to swelling of the stomach lining from ulcers, treated with acid blockers), or neurologic (as with diabetes, treated with rx that stimulates motility--domperidone, erythromycin, stomach pacemaker).
