Swelling : Swelling and water retention are not usual symptoms of neuropathy.  These problems are serious enough to need evaluation right away.  A same day appointment at a primary care provider (internal medicine, family practice or urgent care) or a visit to the emergency department would be a good idea.

Stop laxative: would not recommend another med to treat over use of a med. Best is to stop the laxatives and let your body heal. See your doctor for help with this. Can be very difficult to stop using them. Can also be very dangerous to keep using them. Please get help from your doctor. Best of luck with this difficult situation.

Not that I know of: I have had many patients on ms contin but have no seen this swelling with it. If you are on actos, (pioglitazone) amlodipine, diltiazem, verapamil, nifedipine, prazosin, terazosin, or minoxidil, you can develop a swelling like this. Make sure  urine has no protein and uric acid normal. You mention blood tests are normal. If liver and kidney functions are normal, your next step is to have an ultrasound on heart.

Accepted Answer

NO: Never a good idea to use a systemic drug for a local problem. You will dehydrate all your vital tissues and organs. You can damage your kidneys and cause abnormally now blood pressure.  Fluid retention is a normal part of the menstrual cycle and resolves on its own. If you are overweight, that's another possible cause and should not be diuresed.

Edema, bloating: I believe that you have 2 separate issues.  The abdominal symptoms may be due to lactose or gluten intolerance for which you try an elimination diet and/or consult a gastroenterologist for diagnosis and treatment. Fluid retention, in an otherwise healthy young female may be hormonal related. Another possibility is underactive thyroid. Kidney, liver, cardiac and medication causes are less likely.

Fluid retention: I do not believe there is a connection between any kidney condition and painful quick water retention into hands after 12 oz soda; if you had nephrotic syndrome, water retention is generalized and hands swell, but one 12 oz drink would not bring on major symptoms

Alc. on many organs: Vitamins you are taking do not cause water retention. Alcohol affecting liver can cause retention of water &amp; also alcohol is myocardial toxin which can cause water retention.

Get checked by a doctor for future plan.

Decrease/stop alcohol

Was your Vitamin D level very low? since you are on 10,000 units daily which is high dose.
