not likely: You don't say what kind of thyroid med you are taking.  Thyroid hormone taken for underactive thyroid will not cause swelling around the eyes, but hypothyroidism can.  Medications to lower overactive thyroids (methimazole, ptu) also are unlikely to cause eye swelling, but graves disease (the most common cause for hyperthyroidism) can affect the eyes.

Depends on cause: Fluid behind eyes is usually diagnosed by an md exam and refers to leakage  from blood vessel in the back of the eye. These vessels occur in, or beneath the retina. Common causes include diabetes, macular degeneration, central serous retinopathy(csr), and inflammatory conditions. Treatment can be eyedrop or injectable medication or laser depending on the cause. Csr often clears w/o treatment.

had a virectormy in one eye...since retina surgeon saw 2 peripheral tears and possible fluid going behind retina...surgeon used gas in the right eye...been asked to keep head vertical for 24 hours a day...how can i do this? also recovery time please?

: Sleep upright in an easy chair that you can prop yourself in that position. Recovery times vary and is best estimated by the surgeon that knows all the factors of your case.
