how long after a shingles outbreak should i wait before getting the seasonal flu shot?

No perfect answer: Unfortunately, the question has not been studied extensively. In general, doctors recommend that people not have a vaccine when they are fighting an infection.

If you were my patient, I would recommend that you wait to get the flu shot until the shingles greatly improves or goes away completely. You should check with your doctor about this, however.

?strress: From the shots. See your doctor who gave them. Many people, even some doctors, do not realize how stressful a vaccinaion is. We dose them out as though there were no side effects to be expected.

Early is better: Some folks think the flu shot wears off over time &amp; it does but over several years, not months. The problem with the flu is there are several (5-8) strains circling the globe at one time &amp; they can only get stuff for 4 strains in the vaccine before it would weaken the power for each strain. They pick the most common strains, but that can change mid season so the vaccine sometimes misses.

No Record:: If someone is very scared of needles, s/he can have temporary increase of heart rate/pulse, some sweating and may be, brisk increase of blood pressure. But it will never give rise to long term hypertension.

although i have advanced spine cancer spread to menengis but not spread any where else.ive had pneumonia vaccinations .i have family history of shingles .can i have shingles vaccine and flu injection while having radiopherapy due to infection risks?

Sounds ok: One can ask her doctor about a new shingles vaccine (Shingrix) which is not a live vaccine, so cannot cause a viral infection. Also, the High-Dose flu vaccine for seniors can give better protection than can the regular-dose flu vaccine. The High-Dose injection is not a live vaccine, and thus cannot cause a viral infection. In advanced cancer, be sure to look at Quality of life, not length of life.

Natural remedies: Unfortunately getting the flu shot doesn't guarantee you won't get the flu; it often does not work. I do not recommend the standard drug, Tamiflu, as it may only help if started within 24 hours, at most reduces symptoms by 24 hours, is pricey and has flu symptoms as a side effect. Flu vaccine and GBS: Gbs is rare. Medical events occur regardless of vaccination, and background rates are used to assess vaccine safety by comparing the expected rate of disease or death to the actual or observed rate in any given timeframe. The background rate for gbs in the U.S. Is about 80 to 160 cases of gbs each week, regardless of vaccination.

Tamiflu: If you got the flu and it was confirmed, then tamiflu (oseltamivir) can help especially if started within 48 hours of the onset of the flu symptoms, regardless of vaccination status.

Yes: Any child can be fussy after any vaccine. This is usually mild, lasts less than 24 hours, and can be relieved by giving acetaminophen. The flu shot offers excellent protection against flu, which is a serious respiratory illness that leads to pneumonia. Tell your doctor about previous reactions when your child is vaccinate, for advice on how to manage discomfort.

Less than 0.0%: The answer is none, in real life terms. The CDC reports that our rate for GB syndrome in the US is about 80 to 160 cases each week (maybe from infections), regardless of vaccinations. The CDC says the possible increased risk of GBS following flu vaccination is small, on the order of one to two additional GBS cases per million doses of flu vaccine administered. That means no need to worry about it.
