i took a fleet enema (sodium bisphosphate) and an hour later i went to release my bowels and  i saw i had mucus mixed in with my stool. should be concerned?

Probably not: Mucus is normally produced by the colonic epithilial cells, so it is probably nothing to be concerned about.  What is more concerning is that you were able to hold the enema for an hour before evacuating.  Most people can only hold the enema a few minutes.

i used 1/2 bottle of premade fleet mineral oil enema. first time. it said to follow it with a regular saline fleet enema after, to help pass stool & clean out the oil. it's very oily! can i use a 2nd saline to clean the oil better just this one time?

Yes, even more times: You can safely use saline enemas several times assuming you are treating simple constipation but if you are getting no result, have abdominal pain, fever, or vomiting, go to the ER or see your doctor.

Fecal Impaction: If you have tried everything and nothing seems to help you are better off visiting your physician you might need manual disimpaction.  Also your doctor could prescribe a medication called lactulose.

No: An enema stimulates the rectum because of its volume. Softeners make the stool absorb more water thus making them softer. Sn enema may make the stool softer just by adding fluid to it.

my son  18yrs old with bloody stools. he was schedule for a sigmoidoscopy.,using fleet enema (sodium bisphosphate). he don't want to go through this. what's the alternative?

Bowel prep: Some centers will not even attempt a procedure like a sigmoidoscopy unless the patient is willing to follow the preparation protocol. That said, they may be willing to do so if the patient does a significant bowel prep using a bottle of magnesium citrate or similar agent. I would call the center and see. The exam is worthless unless the fecal material is removed and the colon can be seen.

Silver vs. melena?: Dark-colored stools may result from iron supplements, foods you eat (like a lot of spinach), substances (like peptobismol), but most significantly suggests bleeding. When blood is denatured by acid in your stomach, as from ulcers, stools will turn tarry ("melena"). Blood may also be ingested from nose bleeds, bleeding gums. Silver-colored stool suggests bleeding from the biliary tree. Get checked.

Many causes: There are many causes and the only way to come to a diagnosis would be to have her examined and also have microscopic examination of her stools. In addition to bacteria and viruses we also need to look for Giardia and amoebas. This can also happen due to allergy and milk intolerance. So make an appointment and have her seen.

Good : Good news! the only stool colors we get really concerned about are red (blood from colon), black (blood from small intestine or stomach), or white (liver is not working well). And in your case since you take iron, black stool would be expected and not worrisome.  Colors such as brown, yellow, orange, green, gray, even blue (blue kool-aid or blueberries) or purple (beets) can all be normal and usually associated with diet. If you have a persistent change in your stool habits, you should contact your physician since this could be a sign of an underlying disorder, but a short period of strange stools that are not red, black or white is usually of no concern.

: Your average 2 month old has flabby/weak belly muscles leading them to often use their breathing/fussing muscles to help push food along in digestion or out as poop. Some struggle more than others. I don't consider gray poop unusual. This is all common in normal infants. if it spooks you have him examined.
