They can cause hard bumps called nodules if you continue to rub or scratch.  Also, are the fleas still around?  Other bites can look like flea bites and last a long time, such as scabies and other mites.  Hydrocortisone cream and oral Benadryl (diphenhydramine) will help the itch.

Depends: If uninfected, they should heal within a week. If irritated and scratched, they will last longer, scar up and may become infected. Avoid scratching and apply an antibiotic ointment and keep them clean to enhance healing. May also apply a "liquid bandaid" that looks like clear nail polish to slow itching and infection. Topical Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is useless as are steroids.

Fleabites: Without a picture i can only assume that the ugly marks you are talking about represent scratch marks from scratching your flea bites.Use pyrethrin to kill the fleas and remove your dog or cat from the environment if they are the source if the fleas. They can be treated by your vet. The pyrethrin should work after several treatments. You can use 1 percent Hydrocortisone to remove your ugly scratch.

Depends on early Rx: Treating flea bites promptly with cool compresses, 1 % hydrocortisone/calmine and perhaps an oral antihistamine (claritin/zyrtec) and tending to the scar after the lesions heal will minimize their appearance. If they are severe, exfoliation, moisturizing, sun block and over the counter anti scar treatment (mederma/neosporin scar solution) are starters for fading the scars.

Flea bites?: if they are indeed flea bites, it should feel better in a few days.  you could try some hydrocortisone or itch-x to help w/the itching.  if you are not sure, however, you need to have it checked out because it could be something more serious and it better to treat it early before it spreads
