See a dermatologist: There are a lot of reasons for fingernails falling off.  Some patterns represent systemic reactions to drugs or systemic illness.  See a dermatologist for evaluation.

Normal variation: In most cases, longitudinal ridges on nails are a normal findings as people grow older. At younger age like your son, pl. make sure he is checked by his PMD for any potential medical cause that may include some nutritional deficiency.

Ouch: That would depend on the damage. I would tend to think you will be okay. I would ice it immediately and as much as possible. Unless the latop was very heavy and the distance it traveled was long, you should be okay with minimal damage. Was their bleeding of any kind? Is the nail broken or anything? These clues would help aid the prognosis.

Nail Dystrophy: You most likely have median nail dystrophy. If you pick your nails, or manipulate the skin around the nails, this can cause this nail condition.  If there has been significant trauma, there is scaring in your nail bed which cannot be cured.  I would have your doctor write you a prescription for tacrolimus apply this medication to the skin around the nails twice a day for 6-8 weeks.

Sometimes immune body responses can cause nail bed damage.

Depends: On how long ago it happened. If more than a day, too late , if it just happened and there is a blood accumulation under the nail, your doctor can drill a small hole to relieve the pressure.

Injured cuticle: You neglected to indicate how long ago? After an injury, expect nail change for 6 months. If the injury caused permanent damage to the cuticle, the nail will never be normal. Keep very short. Lubricate frequently.

Hello. : Hello. I canâ€™t diagnose your condition. However, onycholysis can occur after trauma to the nail.  The nail becomes loose from the nail bed and can turn yellow or white. It is recommended that the nail be clipped short, that you donâ€™t scrape under the nail and that you keep the nail dry.  There are other possible causes for onycholysis but it sounds like yours was traumat related. Take care.

Xray exam: she may have dislocated/fractured finger and she may have blood under her fingernail. Go to ER or urgent care for a complete evaluation and diagnosis.
