Topical use ok: The product has quite a list of ingredients: Ethyl Acetate, Alcohol Denat., Butyl Ester of PVM/MA Copolymer, Phthalic Anhydride/Trimellitic Anhydride/Glycols Copolymer, Butyle Acetate, Acetyl Tributyl Citrate, Sucrose Octaaacetate, Denatonium Benzoate, Isopropyl Alcohol, Benzophenone-1, D&amp;C Violet No. 2.  Most of these are used in other cosmetic products that are used regularly. Do not ingest.

So do I!: So do I on my index finger! This is completely benign (not a health problem at all) and has nothing to do with your previous biting habits. Think of it like a freckle or a discolored hair. It is made the same way by the nail cells right at the quick. They put dark pigment (melanin) into their growing nail and it extends as the nail grows. Think of it as just making you more unique and special!

Could be: If it on only one or two nails that argues for a local damage to the nail or nail plate underneath the nail.  If it is in the nail proper it will just grow forward and out and you will cut it off. If it was systemic -eI.e. You ingested something- I would expect all of the nails to be affected. See a good dermatologist if you're worried.

Relax: Nobody has any definitive answer to cause or cure of this. It may be a type of compulsive behavior so possibly OCD therapies can be considered. Some people put bad-tasting agents or thick lacquer on their nails. Clip your nails very short. Do not waste much emotional energy on this. Lots of people bite their finger nails and even toenails. They stop when they lose their teeth or without knowing.

Be aware of habit: One way to stop the habit is to become conscious of the habit. Think about not biting your lip or cheek. If that does not help try painting your nails with mavala or bite it . These polish products taste bad and discourage nail biting.
