Yes but ...: As long as the qt segment on your ECG is ok at rest and monitored while on the drug , a simple antihistamine is fine. The ones with a decongestant are not good under any conditions as it may cause rhythm problems and htn.

What is the question: Finasteride is drug to treat enlarged prostate in men twice your age. Minoxidil is sometimes used for scalp hair loss. The use of this combination MAY help
with hair growth ,but it is not an standard treatment.

Depends on dose/sex?: Propecia (finasteride) is not i dictated in women so i assume the contact will be small. However higher doses have the potential for effecting the growth of the male internal and external genitalia. The effects on a female fetus are unknown. Certainly the most critical time for exposure is during the first trimester.

Smell and taste : Smell and taste are closely related.  Often when people lose both, it is really the sense of smell that is lost, which in turn affects taste.  Nasal congestion could be a factor.  Your medicine is known to affect nasal congestion, but there are no reports of it affecting smell or taste, at least that I can find.  If the medicine is the cause, a holiday from the medicine may be needed to be sure.

i take 1.25mg of propecia (finasteride) once a day, for the past 7 months. how much does that decrease my sperm count, if at all?

Not completely known: Despite Propecia (finasteride) being marketed to younger men, no study of the effects on sperm number or activity were done.  Studies AFTER the drug was available showed that in men who had fertility problems (determined they had sperm problems), that stopping the med improved sperm count 4x in 14 of 24 men.  The other 10 had no change.  In men WITHOUT fertility problems, nothing is known about sperm numbers.

Can happen: There are some studies that linnk lasting depression with the use of propecia (finasteride). The only way to know if you would experience that side effect or not is to take it and see how you react. At the end of day there are risks and benefits to every medication. Discuss this and other concerns with your prescribing physician as its certainly a possibility although not always likely.

Maybe not: You do not have to stop Propecia (finasteride) before TTC, many couples are successful while the husband's take that drug. If your partner does not conceive in a normal time frame, stopping the Propecia (finasteride) may be a good step - typically up to 3 months to completely restore a normal sperm count. Good wishes.
